WADHURST SUMMER MUSIC FESTIVAL
2010

              WSMF

Friday 14 May
‘Arabian Nights’ -  for children of all ages [over 4!]

It's amazing what you can find when you really look hard! Here we have three tales from the Queen of all storytellers - the incredible Scheherazade. The first tale she found was hidden in the sands of the desert; the second at the bottom of the ocean, and the third she heard straight from the donkey's mouth! Genies, camels, flying carpets, and suspicious ne'er-do-wells - welcome to the world of the Arabian Nights. Theatre of Widdershins takes you on an exciting journey through roasting deserts sand dunes, scented markets and fish-filled seas, using puppets, masks, storytelling and wonderfully atmospheric music.

The 2010 Festival opened successfully yesterday afternoon with Arabian Nights, a one-man show for children with a huge cast of characters, that came to us courtesy of the Tunbridge Wells-based production company 'Applause', based at Trinity in Tunbridge Wells and providing high quality professional and affordable live performances that can be enjoyed in a variety of local venues.

Arabian Nights

The Commem looked very pretty for the show, veiled in gold organza, with chinese lanterns, glittery streamers and lots of plastic palm trees!  It was definitely worth the effort because the actual performance was magical - colourful and atmospheric - three storytelling pieces with beautiful puppets, fantastic scenery and a great music soundtrack.  John Bush added wonderful lighting.  A very satisfactory audience of around 100 children and adults, and the crowd of little ones sitting on the magic mats and carpet at the front were transfixed.
