Royal British Legion Summer Concert
Music of the Night!
International Soprano Rebecca Caine returns to sing songs from the shows and operettas.

REVIEW
Wadhurst glistened last night [July 16]. As lightning streaked across Sussex, one hundred of us were enchanted as Rebecca Caine’s exquisite soprano voice filled the old chapel at The Mount, where Wadhurst and Tidebrook Royal British Legion held its Summer Concert as part of the Wadhurst Summer Music Festival.
Elegant in emerald, then twinkling in black and gold, to the superb accompaniment of Nathan Martin on the piano, Rebecca dazzled her way through her eclectic programme. A medley of familiar songs from shows started the entertainment. Singing the haunting Children of the Wind (Strauss) and Your Daddy’s Son (Flaherty), Rebecca used her soprano voice as a powerful emotional force.
Following a delicious interlude, during which the audience were amply fed by the ladies of the British Legion, Rebecca turned to Jazz. She sang Summertime (Gershwin) with its demanding voice control and also moved to her opera voice, with The Face that I See (Legrand).
Picking divers pieces from Opera, Musicals, Jazz and Rhythm & Blues, Rebecca showed the great versatility of her lovely soprano voice. She concluded on an emotional note, inviting the audience to join in We’ll Gather Lilacs (Novello). The applause, which accompanied the storm outside, was thunderous. PH
